HCI SI 2021

CALL FOR PAPERS

6th Human-Computer Interaction Slovenia (HCI SI) conference
University of Primorska, Koper, 8 November 2021
https://hci.si/hci-si-2021/

BACKGROUND AND SCOPE

The Human-Computer Interaction Slovenia (HCI SI) is the sixth conference in a series organised by the Slovene HCI community (ACM Chapter Bled). The primary target audience are HCI researchers and practitioners from academia and industry from the Alps-Danube-Adriatic basin; however, we welcome contributions from beyond this region.

IMPORTANT DATES

Submission deadline: 15 October 2021
Notification to authors: 29 October 2021
Conference: 8 November 2021

INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS

Papers should be related to any aspect of HCI technology, systems, devices, techniques, experience, application, methods, tools, theories, and new perspectives.

Submission Platform

All submissions should be uploaded electronically through the easychair platform at the link: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=hcisi2021

Submission Format and Length

The conference uses the single-column CEUR-ART style template available at http://ceur-ws.org/Vol-XXX/CEURART.zip. We also prepared an Overleaf template at https://www.overleaf.com/read/vgccthngprgf. After clicking the link choose “copy project” in the Overleaf menu. You need to be registered and logged into Overleaf in order to be able to do that. The page lengths below refer to the CEUR-ART template.

We accept the following contributions:

  • Research papers 5 to 15 pages long including references.
The length should be proportional to its contribution.
  • Poster papers 2 to 5 pages long including references.
Posters are particularly suitable for showcasing BSc/MSc students’ work as well as work-in-progress. The submission is a description of the work in the form of a scientific paper (extended abstract). The authors will have to prepare the poster and bring it along to the conference.
  • Demos submissions 2 to 5 pages long including references.
After the notification of acceptance, the authors of accepted demos should contact the program chairs for the details about the set-up requirements.

We also welcome papers presenting partial/initial results if authors wish to submit a longer version to another conference or journal. For authors who wish to publish their original results elsewhere we also recommend to describe their methods and results in a more general way to avoid self-plagiarism. The same version as the one submitted to HCI SI should not be under concurrent review for publication by another conference or journal.

Anonymity

We will use a relaxed approach to anonymity where the authors choose what to disclose. The submission system EasyChair will be configured as double-blind so that the reviewers will not see the authors’ names unless the authors disclose them in the paper. Hence, it is up to the authors’ decision whether they wish to disclose their identity in the submitted PDF (thus being subject to a single-blind process) or not (double blind).

Language

The preferred language is English, although submissions in Slovenian will also be considered (in this case, please provide an English language translation of the title and the abstract, as per http://ceur-ws.org/HOWTOSUBMIT.html#NON-ENGLISH-PROC).

Publication and Copyright

The papers will be published in CEUR-WS.org as open access under Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) license. The copyright remains with the papers’ authors.

Presentation Format

Accepted papers will be presented at the conference. At least one author of each paper must register (registration is free). The exact talk duration will be determined when the program is finalised.

KEYNOTE TALKS

1) Peter Knees, Vienna University of Technology

An Overview of Music Retrieval and Recommendation: From Describing Sound to Asking What is Fair

Abstract: In this talk I will describe the developments in music discovery technologies over the last 20 years. This journey will depart from the question of how music can be algorithmically modeled for content-based search and recommendation. Then I will detail how additional data sources representing different types of user interactions have gained importance for these tasks. Ultimately, we will arrive at a discussion of what the objectives of recommender systems are and—most importantly—could and should be in a world where music is virtually freely available everywhere and at all times. This will bring
us to the open question of fairness in music recommendation and how future technology could contribute to this.

2) Gregor Geršak, University of Ljubljana

Gadgets in psychophysiology

Psychophysiology can be defined as a science that studies the physiology
of humans when they are in a particular psychological state. It is interested in human’s heart- rate variability or changes in breathing rhythm when he is afraid, happy, surprised or under cognitive load. Nowadays, industry and society widely use the principles and methods of psychophysiology to improve their products and services. The modern company is interested not only in the physical, chemical or biological properties of its product, but also (and sometimes mainly) in how the product looks, feels or even smells. Apart from psychological
measurement tools, these properties are usually measured using brain scanners, autonomic nervous system monitoring devices, or human behaviour measurement systems.

In the presentation, I will introduce some of the typical uses of simple psychophysiological devices, such as their inclusion in the psychophysiological feedback loop, difficulty assessment, VR sickness, affective gaming, rehabilitation, science in education, and various projects in the field of psychology. I will address the issue of accuracy of these devices and draw some general conclusions based on our long experience.
