BACKGROUND AND SCOPE
This is the 8th edition of the HCI SI conference organised by the Slovene HCI community (ACM Chapter Bled). The primary target audience are HCI researchers and practitioners from academia and industry from the Alps-Danube-Adriatic basin; however, we welcome contributions from beyond this region.
IMPORTANT DATES
- Submission deadline:
22 December 202329 December 2023 - Notification to authors: 15 January 2023
- Conference: 26 January 2024
INFORMATION FOR AUTHORS
Papers should be related to any aspect of HCI technology, systems, devices, techniques, experience, application, methods, tools, theories, and new perspectives.
Submission Platform
All submissions should be uploaded electronically through the easychair platform at the link: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=hcisi2023
Submission Format and Length
The conference uses the single-column CEUR-ART style. The offline template is available at https://hicup.famnit.upr.si/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/HCI-SI-2023_template.zip (MS Word, LibreOffice Writer, Latex). If you are registered and logged into Overleaf we also prepared an Overleaf template at https://www.overleaf.com/read/zwcrdykjgddg#2f4717. After visiting the page choose “Copy project” in the Overleaf Menu (top left corner). The page lengths below refer to the CEUR-ART template.
We accept the following contributions:
- Research papers 6 to 15 pages long including references.
The length should be proportional to its contribution. - Poster papers 3 to 6 pages long including references.
Posters are particularly suitable for showcasing BSc/MSc students’ work as well as work-in-progress. The submission is a description of the work in the form of a scientific paper (extended abstract). - Demos submissions 2 to 3 pages long including references. After the notification of acceptance, the authors of accepted demos should contact the program chairs for the details about the set-up requirements.
We also welcome papers presenting just partial/initial results if authors wish to submit a longer version to another conference or journal. For authors who wish to publish their original results elsewhere we also recommend to describe their methods and results in a more general way to avoid self-plagiarism. The same version as the one submitted to HCI SI should not be under concurrent review for publication by another conference or journal.
Anonymity
We will use a relaxed approach to anonymity where the authors choose what to disclose. The submission system EasyChair will be configured as double-blind so that the reviewers will not see the authors’ names unless the authors disclose them in the paper. Hence, it is up to the authors’ decision whether they wish to disclose their identity in the submitted PDF (thus being subject to a single-blind process) or not (double blind).
Language
The preferred language is English, although submission in Slovenian will also be considered (in this case, please provide an English language translation of the title and the abstract, as per http://ceur-ws.org/HOWTOSUBMIT.html#NON-ENGLISH-PROC).
Publication and Copyright
The papers will be published in CEUR-WS.org as open access under Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY 4.0) licence. The copyright remains with the papers’ authors.
Presentation Format
Accepted papers will be presented at the conference. At least one author of each paper must register (registration is free). The exact talk duration will be determined when the program is finalised.

KEYNOTE
Dr. Elisabeth Lex from Graz University of Technology: Trustworthy Recommender Systems
Recommender systems play a pivotal role in shaping our digital experiences, influencing the content we see online, the products we consider purchasing, and the entertainment choices we make, such as which movies to watch. The increased adoption of deep learning technologies in recommender systems, while enhancing their effectiveness, has also raised substantial concerns regarding their transparency and trustworthiness. Critical issues such as bias, fairness, and privacy are increasingly coming under scrutiny, both in public discourse and academic research. In response, there’s a growing momentum in developing recommender systems that are not only efficient but also uphold these ethical standards.
In this talk, we will discuss recent work to address concerns of bias, fairness, and user privacy in recommender systems and briefly touch upon recent regulatory frameworks to govern AI technologies.

The conference is free to attend. Attendees cover their own expenses to reach the venue.
